What is happening?

The Australian Business Account service will no longer be available from Friday 29 June 2018. This will mean the ABA website (account.business.gov.au) will not be publicly available from this date and you will no longer be able to login to view your account or conduct transactions with your account.

Why is the Australian Business Account (ABA) being closed?

Since the account was launched in 2012, usage and uptake has been low and a decision has been made that it is no longer viable to maintain the service. The Australian government is currently undertaking user research to understand the current and future needs of business users and provide them with digital services that are simple, fast and easy to use.

Will this have any impact on my business?

The cessation of the ABA service will not have any impact on the normal operations of your business. It will only affect data you may have saved to your ABA account, such as SmartForms or ToDo lists of licensing requirements. This data will not be available after 29 June 2018 and you will not be able to login to view your account or conduct transactions with your account after this time.

Will my business be closed?

No, your business will continue as usual.

What does this mean for my Australian Business Number (ABN)?

There will be no impact on your ABN.

What does this mean for my business registration?

Your current business registration will not be affected.

What does this mean for my business licences?

Your current business licences will not be affected.

What do I need to do?

If you are currently using your ABA account, you may need to:

  • Complete and submit any incomplete SmartForms you have saved
  • Save any data that you need to keep for your records to your own computer before 29 June 2018

If you haven’t been using your ABA account and don’t need to keep any data from your account, no action is required.

What data might I need to save?

You might need to save copies of:

  • SmartForms that you have saved to your ABA account
  • ToDo List of licensing information that you have saved to your ABA account

How do I save my data?

To save your data:

  • In your browser, choose to save the page as a HTML file; or
  • In your browser, choose to print the page to a PDF file

I’ve forgotten my password. How can I reset it?

If you have forgotten your password, you can use the Forgotten Password page to reset it.

Can I create a new account before 29 June 2018?

No, it is no longer possible to sign up for a new ABA account.

Is there another account I can use instead? Do I need to sign up for a different account or with another agency?
